Symptoms

- On very old 30-amp AGAs, one element failing takes the whole cooker off (series wiring)

Diagnostics
How a technician diagnoses it
Our technicians follow the factory diagnostic path for this fault.
- 1eR7: all elements are 2.5 kW, expect approx. 18–22 ohms.
- 2R7: oven element is 1.75 kW, expect approx. 30 ohms. The R7 hotplate uses three internal single-circuit elements rated 2100W + 200W + 200W — the boiling spot uses all three, the simmer spot uses 2100W + 200W. A 200W element measures approx. 264 ohms.
- 3Inspect the element tail cable; if damaged, a new cable must be fitted — cables route from the element down the back of the cooker to the main PCB.
- 4eR7 oven element access: remove the two Allen screws (front and rear). Support the top element when removing so it cannot drop into the oven — a car jack or similar helps hold it while locating the threads on refit.
- 5R7 oven element access: open the baking oven door and remove the two roof baffles to expose the element support plate.
