## What is usually behind it

- Element open circuit (most common)
- Burnt terminal connection (common)

## How a technician diagnoses it

1. Identify which element is involved from the failing function. On the Elise/Mercury 48": the multifunction oven (left hand side) has THREE elements — top, base and fan element. The fan oven (right hand side) has ONE fan element. There is also a broiler element and a stirring fan.
2. Access is from the rear: remove the right-hand rear cover (4 screws), the terminal cover (2 screws) and the left-hand wire cover (5 screws). This exposes the terminal box area, heating elements, circulation fans and thermostat phials.
3. Measure element resistance and check for continuity to earth.
4. On reassembly ensure all rear wiring is clear of the wire covers, then carry out earth bond and hi-pot electrical safety tests.
