# Gas oven will not heat — bake ignitor glows but the gas valve never opens

> Gas oven will not heat — bake ignitor glows but the gas valve never opens: symptoms, likely causes and how a technician diagnoses it. Very common AGA issue. Mon–Sun 8:00AM–8:00PM. Call or text 206-427-7323.

Very common issue — here is how we diagnose it, which parts are usually involved, and when to call a pro.

**Very common** · Professional repair only

## What you will notice

- Oven does not heat
- Ignitor glows but no flame
- Long delay before ignition
- Burner lights eventually then stops

## What is usually behind it

- Weak bake ignitor — still glows but no longer draws enough current to open the gas safety valve (most common by a wide margin)
- Gas safety valve failed (less common)
- Open circuit ignitor (common)

## How a technician diagnoses it

1. A glowing ignitor is NOT proof of a good ignitor. Measure the current draw in series with a clamp meter.
2. Where the bake and broil ignitors are the same part number, swapping them is a fast confirmation test.
3. A defective ignitor cannot be repaired — replacement is the only option.
