## What is usually behind it

- Loose-fill and block insulation settling or absorbing moisture over decades (age related)
- Insulation disturbed or not repacked after a previous element/thermocouple repair (repair related)
- Insulating lid liner degraded on the hotplate lids (common)

## How a technician diagnoses it

1. Rule out element, thermostat and seal faults first — they present the same way and are cheaper to fix.
2. After any conduit work, repack the conduit tightly with loose insulation and fit a NEW sealing plug.
3. Check the insulating lids and their liners.
